three witches

The short film “The Three Witches” is a combination of Act 1: Scene 1 and Act 4: Scene. Starring Kendra Allen as the first witch, Amna Ali as the Second witch, and Rachel Jones as the third witch, the film displays the importance of the Witches in Macbeth. To compliment the dramatic and eerie mood of the film, we chose background music that was both those things. In the opening scene, we added the sound effect of thunder called ‘Thunder Clap’ , and the songs ‘Shetland’ and ‘Shogun’ (all music/ sound effects came with the iMovie program, and is by Apple Inc, unless otherwise specified). In the second scene we recreated the song ‘Double Trouble’ by singing it in a witch voice. The original song is featured on the harry potter and the prisoner of Azkaban soundtrack, with lyrics written by William Shakespeare and composed by John Williams. We chose the song Double Trouble because it clearly described the scene with its lyrics with a beat that is both fun and creepy. To act out out scenes, we were dressed accordingly to our parts. In our version of the scenes, we dressed ourselves to look both witch-like gypsy-esque. We wore heavy makeup to appear creepy and wicked, and used dramatic hand gestures when speaking. We spoke in raspy yet high pitched and spooky voices to further portray our characters. During the first scene we, the witches, looked at each other as we talked about meeting Macbeth. In the second scene we look mostly toward the camera/ audience because it is a musical scene (as this is typically what is done in musicals). Finally, in the last scene we look directly at the camera/ audience because our speech is directed at Macbeth.  We used lots of props to stage the scene such as a broom and a lantern in the first scene, and candles, potions, spell books and a cauldron in the second scene. We used all of these props to set up our scenes because they are ones that are typically accustomed to witches and we wanted our characters roles to be clear.
